RH New York, The Gallery in the Historic Meat Packing District has opened on the intersection of Little West 12th Street, Ninth Avenue and Gansevoort Street. This building is a historic landmark originally owned by John Jacob Astor in the late 19th century. Now, with the collaboration between Chairman & CEO Gary Friedman and design architect James Gillam of Backen, Gillam and Kroeger, the building has been aesthetically retouched.
With six stories and 90,000 square feet to work with, this RH New York did not skimp out. Preserving its original brick facade ad cast iron I-beams, the history seems to remain even as they modernize the look with steel and glass. Each of the floors is separated into a different category: RH Interiors, Outdoor, Modern, Baby & Child, and TEEN.
On the first floor, you may notice some oddly familiar sculptures. RH teamed up with Portia de Rossi, an Australian-American actor and philanthropist and founder of General Public. General Public is a publishing company that uses 3-D scanning in order to accurately copy artwork by emerging artists for wider circulation.
RH also has an in-house interior design firm with offices as well as private client presentation rooms and VIP entrances.
Furthermore, they have turned the destination into an experience, adding a Rooftop Restaurant & Wine Terrace and a Barista Bar presented by the Founding President of RH Hospitality, Brendan Sudikoff.
You can take the glass-encased elevator in order to get to the top floor or choose the scenic route, ascending the grand staircase in order to view New York Night, an 90-foot-long art scene by Los Angeles artist and designer, Alison Berger that consists of 120 hand-blown crystal teardrop pendants that collect the views of the city’s skyline within each drop. Berger said she wanted to provide visitors in “ever-changing pattern[s] of expansion and compression.”
Once you reach the top, you will be able to enjoy the beauty of the Hudson River, World Trade Center and downtown Manhattan while lounging in garden rooms equipped with overhead canopies, trimmed hedges and murmuring fountains.
The business is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00AM to 8:00PM and on Sunday from 11:00AM to 7:00PM. Be sure to check out the new hotspot!
