Pantone’s Luxurious Color of the Year: “Living Coral”
It’s that time of year again. Pantone has announced the Color of 2019: PANTONE 16-1546: Living Coral. This peachy orange shade is described as sociable and spirited, and welcoming and encouraging of lighthearted activity by the company. The Pantone Colour Institute announces the color of the year every December since 1999, based on trend-forecasting research.
Different from last year’s color of Ultra Violet that was meant to be a “dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade,” this year’s Living Coral is meant to reflect the ‘”innate need for optimism and joyful pursuits” as a response to social media and digital technology.’
Many fashionistas, such as Gigi Hadid (featured above) have already begun to implement this color in their wardrobes.
This year’s shade is meant to be a nurturing sort of color, adding the balance we all so desperately need back into our lives.
You can expect this color to be alive in the market next season, as Pantone’s Color of the Year has been prominent in marketing decisions for about 20 years now. Living Coral will have its impact on product development and buying teams not only in fashion, but also in home furnishings and the packaging of these products themselves.
The Pantone Color Institute is well-known on the runway for forecasting global and seasonal trends. The research they do continually goes toward aiding companies in branding by evoking psychology, power and emotion through colors. This is huge, as colors that are “hot” versus “cool” are already such strong points in branding.
